I purchased the Morakniv Companion specifically for a camping trip which was great because I like having reasons to purchase knives. This knife is absolutely one of the least expensive knives I have in my collection and flat out of the most useful. It's so inexpensive that I had zero reservations about beating the snot out of this thing. The first thing I did with it was sharpen the blade a bit more, not that it isn't sharp... it is. But for my purposes I wanted it beyond factory sharp. The next thing I did was file down the spine a bit. It comes with the edges of the spine smooth which is great unless you are trying to throw a spark from a fire steel. I was able to get it pretty flat and it threw a decent spark, I could have done better but it worked fine and got my fire going. In the process my file slipped and I scuffed the handle, didn't care.In use it worked fine. I processed some wood, I made some feather sticks, got some shavings, lit a fire, sliced up some potatoes, cut up pork chops and spread some butter. Still pretty sharp but getting sharpened before going in with the rest of my every trip gear.In the video you can see it batoning some oak that was already split down. It was 2-3 inches thick which is about the max I'd do with this knife and don't get me wrong. I am not saying this knife is a workhorse when it comes to that kind of abuse, it isn't. I am not ignoring the fact that it isn't a full tang knife and isn't designed for that. BUT it did do it, so with care and working within the knifes ability I believe if will last years. So I'm going to say it like the other reviews here that made me click that add to cart button. Just buy it already.

I have heard that Mora knives are some of the best for the price, that their quality is worth knives that cost 3x as much. I mainly got it as a general house utility knife so that my girlfriend didn't use the nice German kitchen knives to open packages, etc. My first impression when it arrived that is was a typical modern interpretation of a Scandinavian/Finnish pukko knife. It was very light, and the blade was shiny in a way I associate with cheap high chromium/low carbon blades. However, it had a nice edge and with a few passes through a Lansky sharpener, it was very, very sharp. I tried the paper cutting test and it passed with flying colors, The grip is very ergonomic and feels wonderful in the hand. The sheath is all plastic and weighed so little I thought it was flimsy at first, but it is solid and has good retention. We will see if that holds up with age. The only con I can see so far is that the blade scratches easily, but this is not a showpiece or collectable. It is a utilitarian tool. It would make a great camp knife, bushcraft knife, hunting knife, something you can pack away in your boat or backpack, but out bag or glovebox, tacklebox or toolbox. It's a knife you can get dirty and scratched and banged up and you don't have to worry about ruining it's looks. If fact a bit of wear from use will give it some character.
